Becoming disabled can be a traumatic experience for a number of reasons. Beyond learning to live with a disability, a person may not be able to provide themselves or family with sufficient income to live day to day. In these cases, the American Social Security disability program potentially offers a refuge and opportunity to get the help they need. Through both the Social Security disability insurance and supplemental security income programs, qualified disabled Americans may get benefits of which they are in desperate need. In order to get these benefits, a person must meet certain qualifications and be approved by the Social Security Administration.
